
A violent encounter on Piedmont Road in Atlanta has left one man in critical condition and another deceased, city police have confirmed. The Atlanta Police Department reported that on April 9, at approximately 12:50 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot at 2171 Piedmont Rd NE. Upon their arrival, they found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the department detailed.
Emergency medical services rushed the victim to the hospital where he is currently battling for his life in a critical condition, meanwhile, authorities scouring the scene were on the lookout for a dark-colored SUV, suspected to be linked to the shooting. Officers with the A.C.E. Unit, working alongside the Georgia State Patrol, later spotted a vehicle matching the description given; this was on Jonesboro Rd. SE, near Midway St. SE. they saw the suspect vehicle and they tried to pull it over, that's when they noticed the driver, a male suspect, had sustained what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect, who was unresponsive at the scene, was pronounced dead by the arriving medical teams, according to statements from the Atlanta Police. The identity of both the victim and the deceased suspect has not been released as of yet, pending notification of next of kin and further investigation into this convoluted incident.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as Atlanta Police continue to piece together the motive and circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
