
A high-speed chase through DeKalb County ended with two women, including a teenager, behind bars after an armed carjacking spiraled into a frenetic pursuit and crash on Thursday night, authorities said. The DeKalb County Police Department reported that the incident began around 8:20 p.m. when a car was hijacked at gunpoint near the intersection of Glenwood Road and Austin Drive, as per FOX 5 Atlanta.
Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle and while attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the driver rammed a police car in an attempt to escape, a collision that precipitated gunfire from one of the officers and the suspects, they fled kicking off a high-speed chase that culminated in a crash in the 2100 block of Flat Shoals Road, detailed WSBTV. Patrol cars swarmed the scene as the chase, which saw the suspects weaving through traffic at breakneck speeds, ended abruptly when they collided with another vehicle, which fortunately did not result in injuries to the parties in the other car involved.
Following the tumultuous pursuit and crash, both suspects were apprehended; the older of the two was identified as 29-year-old Chasity Brown, who was later taken to a hospital after complaining of not feeling well, authorities say from both outlets. The younger suspect, whose age is indicated as under 17, led the high-speed chase according to police, and her identity remains undisclosed due to her juvenile status. Both were taken into custody after the chase concluded.
Speaking to the severity of the situation, DeKalb County Police found two guns inside the crashed vehicle, adding further gravity to the already dangerous episode that unfolded, the recovered weapons now forming a part of the ongoing investigation by local law enforcement.
