A woman is fighting for her life, and three cats were rescued after a blaze tore through a Walpole residence on Saturday night, officials said. According to Boston 25 News, the fire erupted at a home located on Edward Drive around 8 p.m., where neighbors reported smelt, and saw smoke billowing from the property.
Firefighters from the Walpole Fire Department rushed to the scene, encountering substantial smoke upon their arrival. Crews managed to gain access through the first floor, and found, a woman in the living room. She was swiftly extracted from the inferno and taken to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The fire brigade also succeeded in saving three cats after they extinguished the flames at the residence. As of now, the investigation into what started the fire is ongoing.
