In a move that's bound to bring some relief to absent-minded residents, the Woodstock Municipal Court has laid out a welcome mat for those who've skipped court in the last year. Starting from April 22 through April 26, in line with Georgia Cities Week, the court is offering a no-strings-attached amnesty period for those sporting Failure to Appear bench warrants, a convenient chance to clear out legal cobwebs.
Explaining the deal, Chief Judge Robert Tidwell has been quoted as saying, "If you missed a court date in the past year, you may come into the City of Woodstock Municipal Court’s office and take care of your citation without any additional penalty," according to the City of Woodstock. However, the amnesty applies only to the warrant itself, not to the original charges that brought you to court in the first place.
For once, those in hot water with the judiciary system can catch a break – provided it's a daytime visit. The doors are open at the Municipal Court Services within Woodstock City Hall Annex on 12453 Highway 92, Woodstock, GA, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. But keep in mind, they won't keep the lights on for latecomers; business hours are strictly Monday through Friday.
There's more details to be dug up about the proceedings at the court's website, available for those interested in getting their ducks in a row. Visit their page at the City of Woodstock website, and you might just find a legal life-raft that's been tossed in your direction.
