A 14-year-old boy is behind bars after the shooting of a 16-year-old girl in Seguin, Texas, authorities said earlier today. The teen was arrested following the Saturday afternoon incident that has left the community reeling.

Seguin police reported that the call came in around 4 p.m. leading them to the 1200 block of West Court Street, where they discovered the injured girl with a severe, life-threatening gunshot wound to her head, as FOX San Antonio reported. The victim was urgently airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio, and per latest updates, she remains under intensive medical care.

Investigators quickly zeroed in on a 14-year-old suspect, who is believed to be connected to the violent act. The unnamed juvenile has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon serious bodily injury family violence, according to KSAT. While the probe into the motivations behind the shooting continues, authorities have not yet disclosed any possible reasons for the attack.
