The 17th annual Illinois Product Farmers Market is set to kick off on May 16, transforming the Illinois State Fairgrounds into a buzzing hub for local produce, fair food favorites, and family fun. According to an announcement from the Illinois Department of Agriculture, visitors can enjoy activities like Touch-A-Truck, balloon art, and live music, making it a go-to destination every Thursday through late September.

Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton expressed her enthusiasm for the event, "Farmers markets have a special place in my heart, bringing together the community and expanding access to fresh, nourishing local food and products." She celebrated the market's 17-year tenure, made possible by the hardworking local farmers, growers, and vendors. Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Jerry Costello II, echoed these sentiments highlighting the market's role in showcasing small to mid-sized businesses offering products made in Illinois.

With the scent of lemon shake-ups and Cozy Dogs in the air, courtesy of Coleman's Concessions, and the sweet allure of Johnnie O's Mini Donuts, the market promises a diverse culinary experience. Foods like pony shoes and slushies are also on the menu, ensuring a treat for every palate. Beyond the gastronomic delights, the schedule lists everything from face painting to prize draws, along with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m.

Adding to the market's allure is the IDOA's announcement that for every dollar spent in LINK at the market, there will be a dollar matched, doubling the spending power for fruits and vegetables. As an incentive for marketgoers, free Illinois Product reusable bags and opportunities to win a variety of prizes, including fair tickets and market cash, are part of the draw. Entertainment and educational activities for kids, such as crafting and interacting with zoo animals, are also scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening.

The market, which operates every Thursday starting May 16th except for July 1st, August 1st, and during the state fair, also features cooking demonstrations and a rotating selection of food trucks. Vendors provide everything from local wines to baked goods, all produced within the state. Those interested in vending at the market can apply through the Department's email, as there's still space available. Visitors can stay updated on activities and offerings by following the Illinois Product on social media or visiting the farmers' market's official website.
