A night of violence in North Miami Beach resulted in the death of 20-year-old Junisha Niclasse and left another individual injured, officials said. The shooting incident, which happened on Friday night near the intersection of Northeast 22nd Avenue and 163rd Street, occurred adjacent to a Marathon gas station and a McDonald's, where the second victim reportedly sought help, according to NBC6.
Police arrived on the scene at approximately 8:20 p.m. finding two victims, one fatally shot and later identified as Niclasse, and another victim who was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for surgery, surviving; their recovery was underway as of Saturday, officers confirmed. Surveillance footage revealed one of the victims in front of the McDonald's, desperate as authorities converged to administer aid, the aftermath depicted a black Mercedes riddled with bullet holes and shattered glass sequestered within a police perimeter, as reported by NBC6.
While details about the shooter or shooters and their motives remained under wraps, witness accounts to NBC6 indicated that the sound of gunshots went undetected in the parking lot, yet a man seeking help was seen rushing into the McDonald's. The police have yet to release any names of suspects involved in the incident.
Another report from Hoodline emphasized the disruption caused by the shooting, with roads being blocked and the police urging the public to avoid the scene and find alternate routes during the initial response, as the investigators were sparing with information but the heavy police presence indicated the gravity of the situation that manifested into a public plea for patience and cooperation during the difficult hours that followed the incident's occurrence.
Currently, the investigation continues as the North Miami Beach Police Department works to piece together the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
