A family feud turned violent in Port St. Lucie,, when a 70-year-old woman was shot multiple times by a relative, authorities said. The suspect, 71-year-old Tarrant West, holed up in his home before surrendering to the SWAT team after a standoff, as per the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

The drama unfolded late Friday night on Southeast Elrose Court where, after being shot, the unnamed woman managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor’s house at around 11:15 p.m. She was subsequently taken to a local hospital with wounds deemed non-life-threatening, according to reports from CBS12.

The police response involved locking down the area and strategically surrounding West's residence. Specialized units including the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams, along with drone operators converged on the scene, according to a statement from PSLPD on X.

With a Terradyne armored vehicle equipped with a loudspeaker, law enforcement officials made repeated calls for West to exit and give himself up. The suspect eventually complied and was detained by police, ending the standoff peacefully, Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and West is facing charges for Attempted Homicide, five counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Simple Battery (Domestic Violence), as reported by CBS12.

Currently remaining behind bars at the St. Lucie County Jail, Tarrant West awaits his first court appearance to answer for the allegations stemming from the violent domestic incident.
