Chaos erupted at an Ann Arbor bar when a man allegedly struck a stranger in the back with a metal pipe in a seemingly random act of violence, according to local authorities. The incident, which took place around 10 p.m. on Thursday at the Wolverine State Brewing.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect, described by the Ann Arbor Police as a white man aged between 25 to 30, with a thin build and short to medium black hair. He was last seen wearing glasses and fleeing the scene on foot immediately after the attack, as per a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit. The victim, who had no prior acquaintance with the assailant, was hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the ambush.
"The suspect and victim didn't know each other and the attacker did not say a word before hitting him in the back," Ann Arbor Police shared. The department has enlisted the help of the community, asking anyone with information to reach out.
The ongoing investigation has leaned heavily on the disseminated image from surveillance at the bar with the hope that it might lead to a timely arrest. "It's unclear why the suspect attacked," police said, urging witnesses or anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts to contact the Ann Arbor Police Department tip line, as reported by WWJ Newsradio.
