Arizona Gears Up for Rolling Stones Concert Traffic, ADOT Issues Travel Advisory for ValleySource: Jim Pietryga, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

The Arizona Department of Transportation is bracing for an influx of Stones fans as the legendary band hits the Valley on May 7. As reported by 12News, tens of thousands of fans are expected to swarm State Farm Stadium, so ADOT is advising travelers to start early to avoid the jam. With the gig set for 8 p.m. and doors cracking open at 6 p.m., the usual westbound Interstate 10 and Loop 101 traffic is about to get a heavy dose of rock 'n' roll congestion.

"We have sympathy for you," said ADOT in a statement obtained by 12News, as they encouraged drivers to allow extra time and steer clear from acting like wild horses. An alternative for dodging downtown traffic jams is the recommendation to use the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway to skirt around I-10.

State Farm Stadium's parking lot is slated to swing open its gates at 4 p.m., and spots are predicted to be snatched up quickly. For those looking to score a close parking spot or simply avoid the headache of traffic delays, early departure is key. "You better move early if you want to get any satisfaction," advised ADOT.

For live traffic updates, ADOT directs concertgoers and commuters alike to get the real-time lowdown on highway conditions by visiting their Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, or ringing up 511.
