The City of Arlington is halfway done slapping together its latest community joint for the 50-and-up crowd. The upcoming ACTIV center, which got the green light from Arlington voters way back in 2017, is touted as the new hotspot for social butterflies and fitness fiends north of half a century old, and it's finally got its last beam in place.
Located a stone's throw from Green Oaks Boulevard, near enough to the Fire Training Center to maybe catch some of those fumes, ACTIV is nestled on what used to be the Pierce Burch Water Treatment Plant turf. James Orloski, the Parks and Recreation honcho, couldn't hold back his cheers stating, "I'm thrilled to see the final beam in place at ACTIV, marking another significant step toward providing our community with a vibrant space for active adults." He said, as per the City of Arlington, Texas about a laundry list of planned trimmings—from a gym that could play ball with sports like basketball and pickleball, to the indoor waterworks for splashy exercise and some cool-down fun.
But this isn't just a one-trick pony; the shiny new center plans to flex a fitness area, a loop for walkers, rooms for when you need to put your thinking cap on, space for the razzle-dazzle of special events, an outdoor chill spot, additional pickleball courts without a roof, and for those with green thumbs, a community garden.
Membership details are still under wraps, but Arlington is teasing that costs will be on par with its other local rec centers. For locals itching to know what their wallet's in for, they'll just have to sit tight. Old-timers, getting in the game or getting fit, can pick up their recreation around the city's other five community hubs, including Dottie Lynn, Cliff Nelson, The Beacon, Elzie Odom Athletic Center, and the East Library and Recreation Center.
