A tragic incident left a 41-year-old woman dead in Arlington after she was struck by a car late Tuesday night. Arlington Police have confirmed that the woman was hit by a 2015 Honda Accord on the 6400 block of S. Cooper Street. The emergency call was placed by the driver of the Honda at approximately 11:01 p.m., and police promptly arrived to find the victim unresponsive in the northbound lanes. She was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by the Arlington Police Department, per the City of Arlington, Texas.
Investigations revealed that the deceased was not in the vicinity of a traffic light or a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. The driver who struck her has cooperated fully with law enforcement and, according to statements, did not to quickly enough see her to avoid the collision. As a result, he is not currently facing any criminal charges for the accident.
The identification of the woman will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office once it becomes available. The loss of life in such circumstances is a stark reminder of the heightened dangers that come with crossing major roadways outside of the shelters offered by traffic lights and crosswalks, especially under the cover of night.
The local police took this incident as an opportunity to urge the public to always use designated areas for crossing streets. The Arlington Police Department emphasized in its statement the importance of pedestrian safety and the risks of cutting across roads. “Pedestrians should always use traffic lights and designated crosswalks when crossing roadways," they advised, highlighting that such practices are essential for safety in the bustling night as well as during the day, as cited in the City of Arlington, Texas.
