An Atlanta DJ known as "Blak Magic" has been stripped of $15,000 worth of gear in a brazen theft at Extra Space Storage on Bishop Street. The series of break-ins, which police say occurred toward the end of April and the first week of May, has left Adam Horne devastated. "Everything I worked hard for for the last 15 years was stolen," Horne told FOX 5.
Atlanta Police have since released surveillance footage showing individuals loading stolen items into a black BMW SUV. Horne, discovering the break-in only when he went to retrieve his equipment before a gig on May 1, was shocked to find a lock that wasn't his securing the unit - a clear indication that something was amiss. Despite advertised claims of "secure, clean properties" by Extra Space Storage, Horne has continually found the facility's security wanting. "Both doors are open right now," Horne said to 11Alive. According to the same interview, this lack of security was a recurring issue, with doors often propped open and a required access code seemingly unnecessary.
Extra Space Storage responded to the break-ins with assurances that safeguarding customer's belongings is a top concern. "We are in the process of evaluating our security systems to improve security at this site," a spokesperson said, promising additional measures and focused attention on the location. The storage facility has yet to provide a satisfactory response to Horne, who claims he was never notified by management about the burglary. When Atlanta Officer Asia Royal inquired why Horne wasn't immediately informed, the manager reportedly said she "had a busy day and forgot to notify him," according to an incident report obtained by FOX 5.
Meanwhile, the DJ is left to rebuild his business from scratch, and his collection of Jordan tennis shoes was also stolen in the theft. Horne expressed his frustration and despair to 11Alive, saying, "Everything that I own of value was taken from this property, and no one is trying to be responsible for anything." The hammer blow to his livelihood comes as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
