Tragedy struck early Thursday morning as a movie production crew made a horrific discovery in northwest Atlanta. An unidentified woman, now identified as 25-year-old Area Barnett, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds underneath an Interstate 285 underpass, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Atlanta Police Department officials were flagged down around 5:30 a.m. by the crew at Collier and Harwell roads.
The Atlanta police are investigating the incident which is believed to be the result of an altercation at a nearby bus stop, Lt. Andrew Smith said. The shooter reportedly fled on foot after the incident. The area was quickly cordoned off by authorities as homicide detectives scoured the scene for evidence.
Fannin, Barnett's girlfriend, remembered her as a kind soul who "would never hurt nobody" and was "the life of the party." These sentiments were echoed by Barnett's coworkers who were stunned by her absence and untimely death, "She was a very hard worker," Kintavion Martin, her manager at Walmart, told FOX 5 Atlanta. "She did a no call no show which is very odd of her because she usually, when she doesn't make it, she calls out."
Friends and coworkers are now demanding justice for Barnett, with Fannin asserting, "We're going to make sure we get justice for her because she didn't deserve this." The police have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the shooting. In the meantime, they are urging anyone with information to contact the Atlanta Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477), as mentioned in an article by Atlanta News First. Tips that lead to an arrest and indictment may result in a cash reward, a possible solace for a community reeling from a senseless act of violence.
