Atlanta's storage units have seen better days as the city now reels from a series of brazen thefts, with bandits hauling off a trove of high-value sneakers and electronics, local authorities are scrambling to hunt down the shoe-loving culprits. In a recent incident, the Atlanta Police Department was alerted to burglaries at a storage facility on Bishop Street in Midtown Atlanta, with thieves breaking into multiple units and snatching items including dozens of sneakers, sports gear, and pricey gaming consoles, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta.
An unfortunate victim, upon visiting his unit on May 6, found it had been forcefully entered the previous day. Employees then revealed that his lock had been replaced, and upon entry, a ghastly scene lay before him—his belongings ransacked, with up to 50 pairs of sneakers, various sports jerseys, hats, jewelry, and two PlayStation 5 consoles gone missing. "One man was wearing a surgical mask, all-black clothing with a hood, and Penny Hardaway footwear," while his accomplice donned a surgical mask as well, jean shorts, an Army green jacket, a black/red Hawks cap, and Dub Zero Jordan sneakers. The thieves were last seen escaping in a black or dark blue BMW SUV, authority relayed, according to FOX5 Atlanta.
But this was only one of several heists striking local storages—a similar fate befell another storage unit at 430 Bishop Street NW, with criminals using power tools to access the property, purloining $15,000 worth of goods, according to a report from Atlanta News First. The loot comprised podcast and DJ equipment, plus an impressive collection of 60 pairs of Jordans. The management suspected another renter may be involved, the criminals having been captured on security footage skulking about and later leaving with bags brimming with stolen items.
The Atlanta Police Department is calling for tips and urging anyone with information to come forward, potentially pocketing a reward of up to $2,000 for their troubles. Sightings of suspicious activity, the distinct getaway BMW SUV, or the white Ram 1500 linked to the thefts could provide vital clues for the investigation.
