The Atlanta Police Department is intensifying its efforts on Morosgo Drive following an alarming increase in violence, including a series of robberies and a fatal stabbing, according to officials. The area, part of the city's Lindbergh community, has seen violent crimes nearly triple compared to the same period last year, per Atlanta Police Department crime data.
In the wake of the recent upheaval, the neighborhood's sense of security has been shaken. "It’s upsetting," resident David Berry told FOX 5 Atlanta. A resident was robbed and assaulted earlier this month by three masked individuals, an incident caught on a Ring camera inside The Core at Lindbergh apartments. Since the year's start, 14 assaults, burglaries, robberies, and homicides have been reported on Morosgo Drive—a steep increase from the five incidents reported by this time last year.
Further igniting concern was a daylight stabbing that occured mere days following the reported robberies. The encounter, resulting from a dispute between two unsheltered individuals, tragically ended with one dead. Atlanta police are actively searching for the assailant, described as a tall black male seen wearing a gray t-shirt and orange shoes. Angie Lee-Montante, a witness to the aftermath, candidly shared with FOX 5 Atlanta, "It was horrific...Unfortunately, he was already deceased."
Lindbergh Morosgo Neighborhood Association President Jamie Olson expressed his disturbance at the events and a desire to see changes. "It’s disturbing…I would like the unhoused to be housed," Olson told FOX 5 Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department crime suppression unit is currently zeroing in on the neighborhood, and discussions with local business owners are underway to approach and to hopefully mitigate the issue.
Residents like Olson are advocating for more immediate action from city leaders to address not only the crimes but also the interconnected issue of homelessness in the area. He has reportedly been trying to reach out for help from city council members, including Alex Wan, but claims those efforts have been met without response. As the investigation for the stabbing suspect continues, Atlanta Police Department are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crimestoppers.
