Firefighters in Travis County are scrambling to contain a blaze that has engulfed 20 acres of land in Southeast Austin, according to officials. The fire, which sparked on Monday afternoon, has summoned the forces of Travis County Fire Rescue, Austin Fire Department, and Star Flight as they grapple with the flames to prevent further spread.
Though the situation remains dynamic, the county's emergency services tweeted, battling on the back side of the fire now, indicating that the blaze is generally contained forward progress. However, despite their efforts visible from the 8100 block of SH 130, there are currently no homes under threat, which is a small mercy for residents in the vicinity.
Sources on the ground, including CBS Austin, report that the fire's forward progress has been generally contained and emergency crews are focused on solidifying gains on the back side. Together with support from aerial units, ground teams are executing a coordinated response to this potentially devastating event.
While the cause of the fire has not been made public, the rapid response by firefighters has been instrumental in averting potential damage to nearby homes. Offering a critical view from above, Star Flight has provided not just eyes in the sky but also vital resources, as @TravisCountyES has confirmed there's no current threat to residential areas.
