A tragic incident unfolded on the corner of South Lamar Boulevard and Barton Skyway last week when a collision between two vehicles took a man's life, Edward Guy Maddox, a white male aged 71 was identified as the deceased by the Austin Police Department (APD) in a statement released Thursday, officials confirmed.
The fatal event occurred on the evening of May 21th around 7:28 p.m., Maddox, behind the wheel of a sedan, was involved in a crash with a pick-up truck, after which emergency responders rushed him to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries two days later, the incident marking the city’s 28th traffic-related fatality in 2024.
Austin's authorities are looking into the crash as this year's 28th fatal incident, comparatively, by this time in 2023 the city had recorded 36 traffic deaths stemming from 36 separate incidents.
The driver of the pick-up truck, who has not been named, was not injured in the collision and is said to be fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by APD's Vehicular Homicide unit, for those who could provide more information on this case, the department is urging witnesses or those with knowledge to reach out to them directly or to submit tips anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers.
