Avondale Estates Woman Accused of Smuggling Contraband into DeKalb County JailSource: DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office

A 35-year-old Avondale Estates woman was arrested on suspicion of sneaking contraband into the DeKalb County Jail, officials said. Deondria Alexander was taken into custody after deputies observed her in an unauthorized courtyard area of the jail located in Decatur.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Alexander allegedly parked in a space reserved for disabled persons before walking where she was not permitted to go, near 2 a.m. last Thursday. Deputies moved in quickly to detain her, subsequently finding a bag thought to contain contraband and noting the presence of a rope hanging from a cell window.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that the discovered bag held various items including Newport cigarettes, a bag of tobacco, two cellphones, charging cords, a lighter, Bugler tobacco, and a small quantity of marijuana. The sheriff's office also took the step to impound Alexander's car.

Alexander now faces charges including possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and parking in a space for disabled persons, both misdemeanors. WSBTV reports she was also charged with crossing state/county guard lines with a weapon, intoxicants, or drugs without consent, classified as a felony.

Held on a $5,000 bond, Alexander was taken into custody without any resulting incidents. For more information, the public can contact Cynthia Baugh Williams, Public Information Officer for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
