Bellevue's getting a cash injection for development—and city officials want to hear your best ideas on how to spend it. The City of Bellevue has put out a call for proposals for projects eligible for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Those in the know have until 4 p.m., June 17 to submit their plans, as per city documents.
The focus this round is squarely on non-construction capital projects, and economic development projects—think design costs, home rehab, or business help for the little guys. However, don’t get your hopes up if your project is about homeless services or other public services, as they're not on the city's wishlist this time around. Projects have to play by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s rules, the RFP noted.
Mark your calendars for September, that’s when the Bellevue Human Services Commission will dive into the applications. Fast forward to fall, and that's when the powers-that-be, the City Council, will get the final say on who gets a piece of the million-dollar pie. And yes, you heard that right—a cool million is up for grabs in 2025 from Uncle Sam's pockets, unless the feds decide to shake things up, as they're wont to do.
But here’s the catch: snagging CDBG dollars is not a walk in the park. Ask anyone who's been through the grind, and they’ll tell you about the heavy load of compliance, reporting, and recording that comes tagged along. It's a long haul gig, with paperwork that lingers long after the last nail is hammered, or the final balance sheet tallied. "Responsive performance reporting, specific demographic data records, and meticulous documentation requirements can extend for years beyond the completion of a CDBG-funded activity," stated the city's announcement.
For more info on the dos and don’ts of the CDBG funding dance, or to snag an application form, hit up the city website Bellevue Block Grant or shoot an email over to Dan Adair at the city office. But remember, in the high stakes world of grant money—it's anybody's game, and the city's not making any promises.
