A grim scene unfolded in Belmont where a 27-year-old man was gunned down, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities. According to the Belmont Police Department, officers rushed to the intersection of Hiller Street and Irwin Street at around 8 p.m. on May 24 after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found the victim wounded by multiple gunshots.

The emergency response was swift, involving BPD officers alongside San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department medics and AMR, who all worked to save the man's life, but, despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The crime scene quickly became a hub of investigative activity as BPD detectives, District Attorney investigators, and the Crime Lab gathered to piece together the tragic event.

Early findings suggest the shooting was an isolated event, and law enforcement is intensely following several leads in the search for answers. In a statement obtained by the Belmont Police Department, the authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, nor have suspects been publicly identified or apprehended.
