Flames engulfed a triple-decker in the Boston neighborhood of Mattapan on Saturday afternoon, leaving three people hospitalized and 16 others without a home. The blaze, which started around 2 p.m. on Walk Hill Street, saw firefighters battling intense flames and heat as they tried to douse the fire that swiftly spread through the back porches and leapt to an adjoining building, WHDH reports.
According to the Boston Fire Department, the fire's ferocity required rotation of crews as the summer temperatures soared. In spite of the challenging conditions, the firefighters managed to bring the situation under control without sustaining any injuries. "Three people were transported and 16 were displaced", the fire officials stated, indicating that the rapid response likely prevented further harm to residents and emergency personnel alike, as per information obtained by WHDH.
In a separate report from NBC Boston, authorities highlighted that all sixteen individuals in the residence were able to escape to safety. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the aftermath has undoubtedly rocked the Mattapan community, with many residents now grappling with the sudden loss of their homes and possessions.
