Boston Police Apprehend Hyde Park Man on Firearm Charges Amid Drug Probe in MattapanSource: Boston Police Department

Members of the Drug Control Unit of District B-3 in Mattapan apprehended 33-year-old Ruben Charles of Hyde Park, on firearm charges, the Boston police reported Thursday.

Officers, who had been engaged in a drug investigation near River Street and Edgewater Drive, were on the lookout for Charles, who had two active arrest warrants and was suspected of carrying a firearm, police said. Police spotted the suspect entering a vehicle with an unidentified woman. Although the officers initially lost track of the vehicle on River Street, they continued the search on foot.

The pursuit led to the eventual location and arrest of Charles and the woman at 1281 River Street. According to Boston Police Department's official report, a loaded Bersa Thunder handgun, with one round in the chamber and four in the magazine, was seized from Charles’s waistband during the arrest.

After the seizure of the weapon, Charles was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The arrest warrants for Charles stemmed from a previous accusation of breaking and entering during the daytime. He is slated to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court, police confirmed.
