A man accused of serial shoplifting was cuffed last Friday in a bustling area of Downtown Boston, police say. Roberto Alves, a 49-year-old local, faced arrest on charges linked to a string of thefts largely targeting an eyewear store at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. According to the Boston Police Department, Alves was nabbed shortly after 5 PM, following a call about a theft in progress.
Cops from District A-1 swooped in after receiving a suspect description from Boston Police Operations, which included distinctive attire—a black ski mask. It's reported that the Sunglass Hut had been hit by a series of shopliftings, totalling nine incidents. The Boston Regional Intelligence Center had already circulated a snap of the alleged shoplifter. On the day of the arrest, officers spotted a man matching the flyer inside the Boston Public Market.
Upon stopping the suspect, authorities discovered he had an existing warrant for his arrest. A subsequent search turned up several pairs of sunglasses, security tags still dangling, valued at about $2,009, as reported by the Boston Police. Alves, failing to produce a purchase receipt, was slapped with a shoplifting by asportation charge and taken into custody. His court appearance took place in the Boston Municipal Court.
