The fire, which broke out in the afternoon, was contained mainly to one room on the ninth floor of the high-rise structure. A "Working Fire" response was triggered, mobilizing multiple teams to tackle the emergency.
Sources indicated that the blaze was intense enough to quickly dispatch four engine companies, three ladder trucks, a rescue unit, two squads, and two division chiefs to the scene. The Cambridge Fire Department, in a statement, noted that "Group 1 was on duty" and that DFC Vaillancourt served as the incident commander (IC) for the operation. No residents or firefighters sustained injuries during the incident.
Firefighters managed to declare all out at 5:13 p.m., bringing the situation under control within a couple of hours after the initial automatic alarm at 2:53 p.m. The prompt and effective response underscored the training and preparedness of the city’s fire services to handle such urgent situations.
According to the Cambridge Fire Department’s report, Pro EMS was on standby to rapidly address any potential medical emergencies. Additionally, the Cambridge and MIT Police Departments played a crucial role in ensuring public safety by helping to safely divert traffic and pedestrians around the affected area. A Somerville Fire Department engine and ladder company were called to cover Cambridge while the city's units were occupied.
