In a bizarre twist, a carjacking suspect was nabbed by cops when he returned to the crime scene in an Uber, probably the last thing he should have done. The apprehension occurred in Gwinnett County, where officers had responded to a reported carjacking at an assisted living facility on Grayson Highway, as per a FOX 5 Atlanta report.
The ordeal played out on the evening of May 9, when a man – identified by police as 25-year-old Keyonne Mann from Grayson – allegedly accosted a woman at gunpoint, snatching her purse and vehicle keys. Mann, who already had an active warrant for his arrest, didn't reckon on driving back to where it all went down – right into the arms of the law. Gwinnett County Police Department noted a suspicious vehicle near the victim's location, which contained items such as latex gloves, and tools linked to carjackings – this vehicle was registered to Mann, according to information obtained by 11Alive.
The plot thickened when Mann appeared back at the scene in a ride-hail car, possibly unaware that officers were still conducting their investigation. The police, already alert to his return, detained him based on his existing warrant. Through a conversation with the Uber driver, officers located the pickup point and were able to recover the victim's stolen vehicle nearby.
Mann is now facing a slew of charges: carjacking, armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As the investigation is ongoing, the Gwinnett County Police Department is appealing to the public for any further information. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers online or through a call – with the potential for a cash reward for details leading to an arrest, and indictment, in this unusual case.
