
A Chicago woman faces charges after allegedly carjacking a 65-year-old man at gunpoint in Washington Park, police said. The incident, which left the victim with a gunshot wound, occurred last week on May 13, on South Prairie Avenue.
Nikiyah McGinnis, 21, was taken into custody on Sunday near the 200 block of East 56th Street, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Reports indicate that the alleged carjacking happened on the same block as McGinnis's residence. Authorities identified her as the offender who, under the threat of a firearm, commandeered the victim's vehicle, subsequently leading to shoot the man during the brazen act.
The victim, who was shot during the carjacking, has not been named. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly released. McGinnis is charged with a felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm.
Separately, early Monday in the same neighborhood, a man fell victim to a group of six men in another carjacking attack. The assailants approached the man while he was near his carin the 5600 block of South Prairie Avenue. "One of the men pulled out a gun and demanded the victim's keys," according to a report by CBS Chicago. The gunmen then shot the man in the ankle before all six carjackers took off in his car. The condition of the man is currently unknown as police have not yet provided updates.
No arrests have been made in connection with the second carjacking incident. Investigation into both cases remains ongoing, and authorities have not indicated any apparent link between the two crimes beyond the geographic proximity. Interested parties are urged to come forward with any information that could assist in these investigations.
