Shockwaves ran through Antioch early Monday morning when two employees of the Contra Costa County Fair were held at gunpoint and robbed while making a night deposit. The Antioch Police Department reported that the armed robbery took place at the BMO Bank on Somersville Road, adding a chilling chapter to the city's crime statistics. According to a press release from the police, the victims were accosted at around 2:18 a.m., right after the county fair had wrapped up its activities.
Antioch officers rushed to the scene following the distress call, and upon their arrival, they were promptly met by the victims, who were shaken following their harrowing ordeal. The two fairground staff members were performing their duty of depositing the event's earnings when an unknown assailant, weapon in hand, threatened and robbed them of not only the fair's cash but their personal belongings as well.
