A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust on the streets of Harris County last week. Constable Mark Herman's deputies were patrolling the 4100 block of Lonesome Pine Road on May 14 when they decided to pull over a vehicle. The driver, later identified as convicted felon Roshan Mahraj, was found to illegally carry several types of drugs, according to the constable's office.
The traffic stop quickly escalated into a narcotics investigation, which resulted in the discovery of cocaine, alprazolam, and marijuana in Mahraj's possession. These substances are regulated under Texas law due to their potential for abuse and are classified as controlled substances.
"Roshan Mahraj was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Possession of Controlled Substance. His bond was set at $5,000.00 out of the 487th District Court," Constable Herman's office stated in a Facebook post. The bond amount is relatively standard for such offenses, although it can drastically to vary depending on the judge's discretion and the surrounding circumstances of the arrest.
Drug-related offenses in Harris County have been a persistent issue, with law enforcement agencies continually aiming to prevent the distribution and possession of narcotics. Mahraj, whose criminal history factored into the charges, faces a serious legal challenge as he awaits further court proceedings. The outcome of his case could, to hinge significantly on his prior convictions and the current evidence against him.
