To date, 33 out of 39 eligible applications within city limits have seen their debris cleared, with the final six, those facing the brunt of destruction, set to have their situations resolved within the next week, according to the City of Conyers.
Financially, the city showed its commitment to the cause by carving out $50,000 for the Storm Assistance Program. So far, the bill has tallied up to a modest $9,800, ensuring that the allocated funds extend as far as possible to benefit the community. Local businesses have been instrumental in executing the cleanup, with Williamson Tree Service taking a leading role. Mayor Evans has been vocal about the difference local partnerships and the Storm Assistance Program have made in Conyers. "On the morning after the tornado, I was out surveying the damage. I know we have a great Public Works Department, but we had nowhere near the manpower to take care of that kind of destruction," he articulated during the May 1 Conyers City Council meeting, as reported by the City of Conyers official website.
