Coon Rapids is gearing up to combine community engagement with family fun this summer in their annual 'Summer in the City' neighborhood meetings. These open-air gatherings provide a casual atmosphere where residents can connect directly with city leaders and department representatives, ask questions, and get informed about local goings-on. It's not all serious business, though—there will be free ice cream and water for attendees to enjoy.

The city confirmed the event dates and locations, setting the stage for citizens to come together three times over the summer months. On June 11, the first meeting is slated to kick off at Mercy Park, with subsequent gatherings scheduled for June 25 at Prairie Oaks Park, and July 16 at Woodview Park. Each meeting is set to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m., according to the city’s announcement.
Demonstrating their commitment to transparency and community outreach, city officials look forward to sharing insights into local projects and initiatives. In an age where face-to-face interactions can sometimes take a back seat, these meetings offer a critical touchpoint between the public and those in power.
For the families in attendance, kids will have the chance to get up close and personal with emergency vehicles on display. Fire trucks, police cars, and public works equipment will turn a section of the park into a hands-on exploration ground for the young and curious. Meanwhile, adults can visit booths covering a diversity of topics relating to city services and community events. The aim is to not just host a meeting but to foster an environment of mutual learning and shared discovery.
