In a daring daylight chase that could have ended in tragedy, the Cotati Police Department nailed a reckless driver after he tore through the streets, putting lives at risk. The department posted about the incident that unfolded when a vehicle, driving at excessive speeds and executing a risky maneuver, nearly collided with oncoming traffic on E Cotati Ave.
The officer on patrol initiated a traffic stop, but the driver doubled down on his attempt to dodge the law, gunning it through residential areas. After a heated pursuit, the vehicle hit a dead-end in Rohnert Park, where both the driver and passenger bolted from the car, sparking a foot chase. With backup from the Sonoma State University Police Department, they snagged both runners without further fuss.
The aftermath saw the driver slapped with a list of charges heavy enough to weigh down any rap sheet, including felony evading, DUI, child endangerment, cocaine possession, driving on a suspended license, and probation violation. The Cotati PD confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect had been booked at Sonoma County Jail.
The other runner, a 13-year-old kid caught up in the mayhem, was the passenger. Thankfully, the juvenile was handed over to a legal guardian. Praise rained down on the officers from the department for their quick actions that took a dangerous driver off the streets and prevented a potential disaster.
