A Dearborn man has been locked up for 10 to 30 years after copping to a fatal shooting entwined with an illegal dental practice straight out of a house of horrors. The shooter, Zayed Albodour, 53, pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm during the commission of a felony, as per court documents cited by The Detroit News.
Albodour faced the stern gavel of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Bridget Hathaway on Friday in Detroit, under a plea agreement that saw his initial first-degree murder charge dialed down. The victim, a 28-year-old man, whose life was snuffed out on July 6, 2023, was entangled in a dispute that turned deadly over dental work gone wrong at Albodour's West Side Dearborn domicile, according to Patch.
Police responded to the 2200 block of Olmstead Street home around 12:55 a.m., where they discovered the victim with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The illegal clinic, which operated in the basement of Albodour’s home, became the setting for the fatal incident over an argument about dental work, specifically a root canal and veneers, reported ClickOnDetroit. A plea agreement sealed in April brought forth the current sentence.
The attic of the illegal medical practice housed Albodour's unlicensed work – a fact that Minnesota previously recognized when they rejected his attempt to practice dentistry due to inadequate education. The family of the slain man said he turned to Albodour to cut costs but instead paid with unrelenting pain and ultimately, his life, according to details emerging from the case. Albodour's attorney was not available for immediate comment on the sentencing.
