Tragedy struck Barrow County on a fatal Friday night when gunshots echoed through a quiet neighborhood, resulting in two dead and one injured. The Barrow County Sheriff's Office received a distress call before the hour of 10 p.m. on Friday, reporting a shooting at a residence off Highway 82. Upon deputies' rapid arrival, they discovered the bodies of Bradley Messer, 22, and Jeffery Orr, 58, lifeless in the front yard, as revealed by 11Alive.
The night's violence didn't claim its victims without a survivor; a third person, bearing the marks of the night's chaos, was shot and subsequently rushed to hospital for urgently needed care. Authorities later determined that Messer was the one who fatally shot Orr before turning the gun on himself. In a detailed account obtained by 11Alive, deputies stated, "It was determined Messer had killed Orr and then took his own life after shooting the surviving victim."
As the community grapples with the abrupt violence, Sheriff Jud Smith addressed the media with a call for empathy and support.
