
Firefighting veteran Dr. Miles Allen has officially been sworn in as the new Fire Chief of Douglas County, following a commendable career of over three decades and a pivotal stint as an interim chief. Allen, who took the reins in February 2023, was celebrated in a ceremony on May 2 at the Douglasville Conference Center, officials said.
During his time as Interim Fire Chief, Allen steered the department towards a future-ready position, restructuring the services to align with the needs of the busy county's ever-increasing population and working on the frontlines, he implemented advanced firefighting equipment and technologies to bolster the community's safety. Chief of Staff Tiffany Stewart-Stanley lauded Allen's work, stating that “Chief Allen's tenure as Interim Chief has shown his unwavering dedication to excellence,” and expressed confidence in his continued leadership, as reported by the Douglas County official website.
Allen's focus wasn't solely on equipment and strategy; he placed heavy emphasis on his firefighters' growth, introducing leadership training programs designed to ensure every member under his watch was first-class in their craft.
