DalBam Moon Night Korean Kitchen, a cozy spot opened by the second-generation restaurateur Sun Park, has recently lit up Kearny Mesa with its doors open until the so-called witching hours. The kitchen doesn't sleep until 1 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and twirls the lock at midnight on Sundays.
In a statement obtained by Eater, Park explains the concept behind his establishment: "My friends and I wanted to eat late, but there aren’t many places available." The spot boasts a 1,100-square-foot space promising to seat over 30 patrons, surrounded by partially enclosed booths and large tables designed while considering creating intimate dining experiences for its customers.
Comfort with a twist is the spiel here, with menu items such as main cheese dakgui, bossam, and jokbal tickling the fancy of late-night dwellers and food enthusiasts alike. A direct hit among the specialties is the kimchi jjigae stew that pairs well with a heaping serving of tender spare ribs – an idea, "My dad actually gave me this idea," Park revealed in an interview with Eater. And when morning breaks, Park’s relatives ensure diners get a fresh start with an array of freshly prepared banchan.
True to Korean dining culture, DalBam Moon Night pairs its offerings with drink-friendly options, including soju, flavored soju, and Korean beers. Though not forgetting the classics like pajeon and sharable hot pots, packed with spicy army stew with ramen, kimchi, pork, sausages, Spam, tofu, and vegetables, are a feast for groups. While pouring his energy into this new Convoy restaurant, the owner isn't dismissing the possibility of another location in the future.
