A 30-year-old Farmington Hills man has been charged in the fatal shooting of his younger brother during a domestic dispute last weekend. Frederick Delano Logan is facing second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of felony firearm charges, as reported by The Detroit News.
Authorities got a call from the suspect's mother reporting that her sons were fighting over the family dog which led to Logan shooting 28-year-old Ricky Williams III in the chest, Logan then fled the scene and remained at large for a time until police arrested him the next day in Warren with the help of the local police there, according to The Oakland Press.
The shooting occurred on the afternoon of May 25, on Saratoga Circle near 11 Mile and Halsted roads. Following the incident, Williams was quickly transported to the hospital but died from his injuries there. He was remembered on a GoFundMe page set up to assist his mother as a passionate artist and dog trainer who had a passion for animals and chose a career as a dog trainer and as someone who exemplified all that was good in the world, the publication detailed.
Following Logan's arrest, he has been denied bond and currently remains held in the Oakland County Jail, with a scheduled pre-exam conference before Judge Marla Parker set for June, this all taking place while authorities continue their investigation into the motivations behind the altercation and the community reckons with the shock of the violence that shattered the suburban calm as was reported by Hoodline.
According to Chief Jeff King, while the suspected shooter was considered "armed and dangerous," police did not believe he posed a threat to the wider community, with King stating, "We know who we’re looking for, while he is armed and dangerous, we don't think he poses a threat to the community at large," as per Hoodline. Logan has prior convictions, including attempted larceny in a building and firearm possession as a felon—his criminal background adds a layer to the ongoing legal proceedings.
