Plans are steaming ahead for a Memorial Day tribute to America's fallen at Fayetteville's Patriot Park this coming Monday. A joint effort by the local American Legion Post 105 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3650, alongside the City of Fayetteville, aims to set the stage for a day of remembrance, with ceremonies kicking off at 10 a.m.
As crowds gather to pay their respects, they'll witness a roster of tributes from various community pillars. Among them, Brigadier General Mark Geldhardt is expected to deliver stirring remarks as the keynote speaker. High school R.O.T.C. cadets and Troop 309G scouts will also present honors, backed by musical harmonies from the singing quartet NOTEWORTHY and drills from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard, according to an announcement from the City of Fayetteville.
The high-flying heroes of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation's Sky Soldiers are scheduled to conduct a flyover that'll surely add gravity to the proceedings. Fayetteville City Councilman Darryl Langford, himself a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, will shepherd in a moment of prayer with an invocation. Following the ceremony's progression, Fayetteville Mayor Ed Johnson, whose past service as a retired U.S. Navy Commander speaks to his ties with the military, is slated to offer the benediction.
Those planning on attending are advised that Patriot Park, situated cozily at the corner of Redwine Road and Senoia Road, will have adjacent parking at Kiwanis Park. Shuttles will be ready, offering a lift to those in need of mobility assistance between the parking lot and the ceremony's hotbed. Attendees should come prepared with lawn chairs to settle into the ceremonies comfortably, and for those craving a morning jolt, a vendor will be stationed to sell coffee.
