Recent rains may have turned the Bill Weaver Arena into a mud pit, but the vibrant Fiesta Charra is still set to take over Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town Lewisville on May 26. From 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., this free event will celebrate Mexican traditions with a series of cultural performances, including Ballet Folklorico dancers and the impressive Escaramuza Charra—a display of synchronized horseback riding, according to the City of Lewisville, Texas.

This annual event is a highlight in Lewisville's calendar, celebrating heritage and festivity. Despite the last-minute location change due to weather conditions making the traditional dirt arena unusable, the event will proceed with enthusiasm. Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities such as mutton bustin', a horse dancing show, a rodeo comedy act, pony rides for children, and a jalapeno eating contest.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Selena Forever, Javier Aguilar, Dany Yori and his Rezzios, and Toty and Andy, ensuring a lively atmosphere. According to the City of Lewisville, Texas, these festivities are part of the “Old Town” Big Move in the Lewisville 2025 vision plan, aiming to enhance the heart of Lewisville with culture, commerce, and community cohesion.

Limited but adequate public parking is available at City Hall (151 W. Church Street), the Visitor Information Center (247 W. Main Street), and the first level of the Main & Mill Apartments parking garages. A free shuttle service will operate from 2-10 p.m. from the parking lots at Steven L. Bacchus Public Services Center (1100 N. Kealy Avenue) for added convenience. While smoking and vaping are prohibited at Wayne Ferguson Plaza, pet owners with leashed and well-behaved pets are welcome, though pets are not permitted on the shuttles.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase to satisfy appetites worked up by dancing and jalapeno eating. For those looking to enjoy a lively cultural celebration, Fiesta Charra is the place to be. Bring your appetite, dancing shoes, and perhaps some antacid for the jalapeno contest.
