A barn at an egg farm on Petaluma's outskirts was swiftly reduced to ashes Thursday afternoon. The fire, which was first reported by KRON4, occurred at the intersection of Skillman Lane and Cavanaugh Lane, casting a large plume of smoke that could be seen from downtown Petaluma.
According to the Petaluma Fire Department, firefighters raced to combat the flames at approximately 2:18 p.m. They arrived to find the recently remodeled barn engulfed. While, thankfully, no humans or animals were present during the incident, the structure itself was confirmed to have been destroyed.
To keep emergency lines open, the Petaluma Police Department urged the public to avoid inundating their dispatch center with calls about the fire. The plea was made via a post by the Petaluma Police Department, a community information service, advising residents to stay tuned for updates from the fire department instead.
Fire officials are currently working to thoroughly understand and determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, Petaluma Farms, the company affected by the blaze, assured that no personnel or livestock were harmed.
