Tragedy struck a Forest Park neighborhood when a man was gunned down outside his home in a fatal shooting that has local police on a manhunt for the culprit. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the victim, identified as John Donahue, was reportedly shot during an altercation that escalated violently on the evening of May 20. Donahue's brother, John Randle, recounted the harrowing scene saying, "I was in the hallway when the first shots started popping off."
Forest Park Police, closely working the case, responded to the incident that occurred on the 4700 block of Burks Road just after 10 p.m. to find Donahue unresponsive with a fatal gunshot wound. Randle narrated to FOX 5 Atlanta, "My brother was lying here deceased. There was a shell casing over there. The dude shot into the house and went through there and into the kitchen, hitting the edge of the counter." Police reported that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and declared that they "have been working tirelessly to bring justice to the victim and his family," in a statement obtained by Atlanta News First.
Randle is now on a quest for closure and justice for his brother. "I'm not going to give up. That's my brother," Randle told FOX 5 Atlanta, emphasizing his determination to see the perpetrator brought to book. He continued by sending a message to the supposed shooter, "If the shooter is listening, turn yourself in. We want justice. We aren't going to let this go until we get justice."
As the investigation drags on, there is a sliver of hope; the family believes the house's exterior cameras might have caught something that could lead to the shooter. While police stay tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation, refusing to divulge additional information, they are urging the public to come forward with any potentially helpful tips. Calls can be made to the Forest Park Police Department directly or tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stappers, further detailed in the statement by Atlanta News First. The family and community are left to grapple with the brutal loss as they await breakthroughs in a case shrouded in violence and sorrow.
