Fort Worth locals are being offered a unique chance to play a part in the city’s urban planning, with a family-friendly twist involving Legos and maps. On Saturday, June 8, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute is hosting an interactive workshop focused on the Eastside's development as part of the city’s comprehensive plan for 2050. While the workshop is free of charge, those eager to put their stamp on Fort Worth's Eastside, are encouraged to preregister for the event.
The session will open with an introduction that prepares participants to dive into tabletop activities, with Legos and maps serving as the primary tools for unleashing creativity on Fort Worth’s canvas. The hands-on experience is designed, not only to entertain but also to bring diverse community visions to the forefront of local planning. "Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to unleash your creativity, contribute to the vision of our community and have a blast with Legos," said Mayor Pro Tem Gyna Bivens, according to the City of Fort Worth.
Community involvement is critical when navigating the proverbial roads of urban development and city planners have recognized this by facilitating an avenue for residents to collaborate in building scenarios for a future Eastside. The approach aims to blend civil engagement with innovative thinking, fostering an understanding of urban planning processes among citizens of all ages.
Participants at the event will be encouraged to envision the kinds of jobs, homes, and communities they hope to see by 2050, turning conceptual thoughts into tangible Lego structures. It's a step toward democratizing city planning, making it accessible and engaging for everyday folks. Expectations for this workshop are high, as it taps into the collective imagination of Fort Worth's citizens to draft a blueprint, for an inclusive and prosperous future, brick by brick.
