Under a new agreement approved by the Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday, the 65-year-old attraction owned by Forest Park Rides Inc. now boasts a 10-year lease with two consecutive five-year renewal options, a ticket to ride through 2044. The City Council's decision came just in time, with the previous lease hurtling towards its expiration date of Oct. 31, 2026, according to the City of Fort Worth.
The train, a hallmark of the local community since its inception, had been temporarily derailed for several months before September 1, 2023, undergoing much-needed repairs and upgrades. This historical amusement, dubbed the world's longest miniature railway at its opening, takes passengers on a 40-minute scenic tour, complete with crossings over six bridges, ensuring that the ride is as educational as it is entertaining.
At the council meeting, Mary Talley, the owner of Forest Park Train, expressed her gratitude as per the City of Fort Worth, stating, "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the extra time that you gave us to get the Forest Park Miniature Train back up. We’ve done really well since we’ve opened back up. We have some really great plans in store for the trains coming up in the near future."
