The popular Jeep Weekend in Galveston County was marred by violence after three people were shot within a one and a half hour period, leaving one dead, officials reported Sunday. According to FOX 26 Houston, the location where the shootings took place remains unclear at this time.
During the chaotic span of 90 minutes, Major Ray Nolen of the Galveston County Sheriff's Office was quoted as saying one individual was found dead at the scene by authorities. Another victim was shot in the chest and had to be airlifted in critical condition, while a third sustained a graze wound to their head, according to Click2Houston. After having received medical attention, the latter was stabilized. Despite the brief chase with law enforcement, one person was taken into custody; however, it is unclear whether they were connected to all the incidents.
This year's Jeep Weekend has continued to display a concerning pattern of unlawful conduct, surpassing 189 arrests by Saturday night. This comes close to last year's event, which saw over 200 arrests. These arrests included an array of charges brought against 14 individuals before the festivities had even kicked off, "over 20 charges were brought against 14 people before the weekend even started." GCSO Captain Jack Walker told Click2Houston.
As the investigation into the shootings continues, further details are expected to be revealed.
