A burglary suspect led the Georgetown Police Department on a foot chase on Wednesday before being apprehended with assistance from their canine unit in the Quail Valley area, according to CBS Austin.
The incident prompted officials to issue a reverse 911 call, asking locals to take shelter in their homes while the search was underway. The suspect, a Hispanic male, described as wearing a black shirt, black pants, and white tennis shoes, carrying a black backpack, was ultimately detained at 6:16 p.m., moments before the area was deemed safe for residents to return to their normal activities, according to a Facebook post by the Georgetown Police.
Details of the burglaries precipitating the chase were not disclosed by police. The department, however, did acknowledge the community's cooperation during the incident. "Thank you for the patience and understanding," they announced after the detention of the suspect.
The use of a K9 unit was a critical component in the apprehension process, but after the suspect was caught, the animals were secured, and the alert was lifted.
