
In a solemn commemoration of bravery and sacrifice, the Grand Prairie Police Department continues to honor the memory of Officer Albert "A.J." Castaneda Jr., who was tragically killed in the line of duty nearly five years ago. A.J. Castaneda, who had built an illustrious career in law enforcement after serving in the United States Coast Guard, was struck and subsequently succumbed to his injuries following a tragic accident on June 7, 2019. A 17-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and hit the officer who was on duty on the President George Bush Turnpike, according to the Grand Prairie Police Department.
Officer Castaneda, who was assigned to the patrol division at the Grand Prairie Police Department, was remembered for his numerous accolades which included Crime Commission Officer of the Month in 2017, a Certificate of Merit, a Life Saving Bar, and a Police Commendation bar.
The community and his fellow officers remember Castaneda as an exemplary figure in law enforcement, emblematic of dedication and a selfless commitment to public service; he left behind a legacy of honor that continues to inspire his peers and those who follow in his footsteps. Castaneda's legacy is not only preserved through the commendations and accolades he received but also through the profound impact he had on the community he served and the colleagues who worked alongside him.
Castaneda's passing was marked by the Grand Prairie Police Department as "End of Watch June 7, 2019," and he is survived by a family that includes his parents, Albert and Patricia Castaneda, his son, Elisha, and his brother, Daniel. They continue to bear the weight of this loss, though his spirit endures in the hearts of those he touched both professionally and personally during his career and his life that was cut all too short.
