
A Hart County man is behind bars after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation charged him with assaulting a young child. Alan James Cain, 21, of Canon, GA, faces counts of Aggravated Assault, Family Violence, and Cruelty to Children in the first degree.
Details about the case remain scant, but the GBI was called in by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office last Wednesday to take over the investigation into the abuse of a six-year-old boy. The accused, Cain, is reportedly the boyfriend of the child's mother. As of now, Cain has been taken into custody and is being held at the Hart County Jail.
The community has been shaken by the incident, and authorities are asking for the public's help. An announcement from the GBI declared, "The investigation is ongoing," while the Hart County Sheriff’s Office press release provided tipsters with numerous options to submit their information, including a hotline, online portal, even a mobile app. Once wrapped up, the GBI will hand over their findings to the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's office for official proceedings.
