A Hialeah man, infamously known as "El Gato," has been charged with attempted second-degree murder following a violent encounter that left another man brutally beaten and stabbed. Julio Alvera-Hernandez, 54, faces additional charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault after his arrest this past Thursday, as per Miami-Dade jail records.

The gruesome scene unfolded just before 4 p.m. on May 5, when Hialeah Police quickly responded to a physical altercation on the 1100 block of Palm Avenue. The victim, discovered bleeding profusely with a knife wound to the back of his neck, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He recounted to police how he had been attacked by "El Gato," as reported by NBC Miami.

According to the victim's account, his assailant, later identified as Alvera-Hernandez, began to brutally hit him with a golf club. In a harrowing turn, as he lay on the ground, "El Gato" proceeded to stab him in the back of the head before robbing him of his wallet and gold chain. The suspect then escalated the assault further by retrieving a gun from his vehicle, threatening the victim's life without discharging the weapon, according to NBC Miami.

Investigators on the scene discovered a metal golf club broken into three parts, with strands of hair and potential traces of blood on the handle, signaling the violent confrontation that occurred. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in corroborating the victim's narrative, ultimately aiding police in identifying Alvera-Hernandez as the truck's owner and the assailant. WPLG Local 10 News post from X the development, cementing "El Gato" as the central suspect.

Following his apprehension, Alvera-Hernandez was booked into jail. In a subsequent court appearance on Friday, he was appointed a public defender and was ordered to be held without bond, ensuring that the man known as "El Gato" remains behind bars as the wheels of justice begin to turn.
