A harrowing fall nearly turned deadly for a 63-year-old hiker from Hillsboro, but quick action from rescue teams ensured a stable outcome after a 300-foot tumble near Dog Mountain Trail in Washington on Friday. According to KGW, the hiker, whose identity has been kept private, was part of a group who called 911 around 1:30 p.m., initiating what would become an extensive rescue operation.
The individual had fallen from the trail near the Dog Mountain summit, a location known for its 2,900 feet of elevation gain. When deputies and search teams arrived on the scene, the hiker was found injured and unconscious, prompting a call for air support. In a terrain rife with challenges, rescuers sought the expertise of a U.S. Army medical helicopter, which provided the necessary extraction from the rough landscape.
Once stabilized by the search and rescue crew, the hiker was swiftly airlifted to a Vancouver hospital for immediate treatment. As KPTV reported, representatives from the Skamania County Sheriff's Office have stated that the hiker is now in stable condition, though no further details about their injuries were disclosed.
