The tragic hit-and-run that claimed the life of Rafael Volweider, a 60-year-old husband and father of three, has Hollywood authorities on an extensive manhunt for a white Chevy Malibu. The Hollywood Police Department has urged the public to assist in locating the vehicle which, as per Officer Christian Lata, may be heavily damaged on the passenger side—likely missing a fog light and part of the front bumper. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Thursday at the crossroads of Stirling Road and Sarazen Drive, reported Local 10 News.

Responding officers found Volweider dead at the scene, having been struck perhaps while on his way to catch a bus after leaving an English class at Hollywood Hills High School. Iraima Guerrero, Volweider's wife, expressed to CBS News Miami that she and her husband would typically take a bus home together after class, but on that ill-fated evening, Rafael would never make it back. "Rafael is, was extraordinary person. A much better father. Very kind people. Many many questions. No answers. I'm really sad," Guerrero said.

The law enforcement's appeal for witnesses is to possibly help to quickly bring closure to the family. In a statement that echoes the pangs of loss and the cry for justice, Luis Volweider, the victim’s son, told Local 10 News, "You leave, you don’t care. A life was lost yesterday. I lost my dad."

Detective estimates point to the vehicle being a model from the years 2016-2018. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the Chevy Malibu or the incident itself is encouraged to contact the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357 or 954-967-4567, or anonymously call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
